There are some situations where you need to pay attention to piercing care and the health of the punctured area to wear jewelry. But basically, we can count them as follows:
-
Do not touch the area for 24 hours after piercing.
-
Wash twice a day with salt water solution.
-
Take a shower for the first few weeks and wash your body without scrubbing and rubbing yourself with a coarse bath-glove
-
See a doctor when you feel signs of infection
Now let's look at what you need to do in more detail.
Don't Touch it for 24 Hours.
Do not touch the area 24 hours after piercing. Wash your hands thoroughly when touching. Dirt, oil, etc. can prevent the healing of the pierced area and may even cause infection.
Keep Ordinary Situations in Mind.
It is necessary to be cautious in this process, and conditions such as bleeding and tingling are common. A normal healing process is as follows:
-
Bleeding, tenderness, flushing and swelling are normal in this process. Such situations may occur immediately after the jewelry has been inserted. However, if excessive bleeding, excessive swelling, excessive pain occurs, contact the doctor or the person who applied you the piercing. Remember that the holes in the genital area bleed for several days
-
Itching and discoloration are also a common part of the healing process. Itching occurs because new cells will form in the pierced area. Likewise, some liquid may come from the piercing. This fluid is called lymph and can cause skin discoloration

Know Different Cleaning Methods
-
It is always necessary to wash the pierced area with saline-based solution once a day for several weeks following the procedure. If the solution you are using is irritating to your skin, ask your piercing specialist about other solutions
-
You can sterilize the jewelry used for the earlobe in a glass of hot salt water. To clean the jewelry that is inserted into the navel, wait for a while holding a glass of salt water towards your navel and press the glass against your stomach to prevent it from flowing. For any other jewelry, drip some salt water solution onto the paper towel to clean the pierced area and jewelry.
-
If you want to wash with soap and water, use soap at most 1-2 times a day. The best way to wash with soap is shower. Apply a little soap to the fiber during the shower and gently rub the pierced area for 15-20 seconds.
-
Also make sure not do excessive washing to avoid the possibility of irritation and infection. Cleaning twice a day is enough.
-
Avoid anti-bacterial products and hard soaps. These substances can damage the healing cells, dry your skin and cause scabbing. Never, ever try to clean with alcohol.
-
Do not use body lotion or baby oil. Due to their consistency, these substances can prolong the healing process by preventing the skin from breathing.
-
Taking a warm shower is ideal for cleanliness. It eliminates redness and dirt. Do not take a bath in the tub for several weeks after drilling. The bathtub is rich in bacteria. Therefore, to avoid infection, delay bathing in the tub for a while.
Try not to get hit
Do not contact with hands other than cleaning the piercing. Do not play or touch unnecessarily. Prevent other people from touching or kissing it. Try not to exercise until the hole heals. While playing volleyball, a ball hitting that area might cause you some unpredictable things. Avoid sexual intercourse during the first 6-10 weeks if jewelry is inserted into the genital area. Also be careful not to kiss for the first 6 weeks if jewelry is inserted into the tongue and mouth.
Stay Away from Dirty Waters
Stay away from pond, bathtub, river, stream, pool. It is difficult to make sure that the waters here are clean. So don't risk your health and stay away until the healing process is over.
Be Patient
Remember, the hole will heal from the outside to the inside. So even if you think the hole has healed, the process may not be complete. Therefore, do not attempt to remove or replace the jewelry during the healing process. Such interventions lead to the beginning of the healing process. Do not panic immediately if you feel pain. The reason is due to the 90% likelihood of movement of the piercing. Keep in mind that not every pain means infection.
